JUSSI-AWARD NOMINATIONS
FOR BEST DOCUMENTARY AFTER ALL
WENTUS
BLUES BAND - documentary nominated for best documentary in Finland
Published January 14, 2008 10:30 pm by STT
"There will be a Jussi-award nomination for best documentary this year
after all. The original plan was to not award any documentaries. Reason
being that last year only two documentaries that meets the demands for
a nomination were made. According to the rules, there should be at
least three Jussi-candidates.
The announcement of not giving a documentary-Jussi this year caused
such a lively discussion that the board of directors for Filmiaura, who
handles the nominations, came to a decision this Monday to nominate for
best documentary after all. Producers, directors and other people
within the Finnish Filmindustry was going to boycot the whole event if
documentaries no would be awarded.
The nominations for best documentary are "Yhden tähden hotelli"
directed by Ari Matikainen and "Family Meeting" directed by Heikki
Kossi. Family Meeting is a documentary about the 20th
anniversary of Wentus Blues Band.
"
The Jussi-award is the finnish version of the Oscar and the big event
will be broadcasted live directly on Television on February 3rd.
Family Meeting will have its cinemapremiere in Sweden on January 27th
at the Gothenburg Filmfestival.

- Janne Haavisto, Producer and legendary drummer
FAMILY MEETINGS WILL BE RELEASED

FILM WILL BE SHOWN AT THE FOLLOWING CINEMAS:
Helsinki, Kinopalatsi 9

GO SEE IT, YOU´LL LOVE IT!
The Film tells a unique story about people behind music. The film was
shot during the fall 2006, in and around the 20th anniversary concert
of the Wentus Blues Band, also on their
home turf in Ostrobotnia, Finland. It's a delicious mash-up of
backstage life and passionate stage performances.
The film features an impressive line-up of rock and blues legends, such
as Eddie Kirkland and Louisiana
Red, ex-Rolling Stone Mick Taylor,
Kim Wilson from the Fabulous
Thunderbirds, Omar Dykes from Omar
& The Howlers, Barrence Whitfield
– lead singer of The Savages, Sven Zetterberg
and Clas Yngström from Sweden, Eric
Bibb, plus Lazy Lester
from the States, deep south. All of the above-mentioned guests have a
long history with the Wentus Blues Band. The film is about the family
meeting of these musicians, where cotton and potato fields, joy,
tolerance, and above all the immortal, shared moments within the Blues
are intertwined.
Family Meeting is not only an extraordinary film of what being a
musician is really about, but it also captures valuable essentials
about music from the cultural history standpoint: play that you feel,
feel that you play!
The film is directed by Heikki Kossi, and produced by Mokul Filmi Oy.
The film has been funded by the Finnish Film Foundation, AVEK, Svenska
Kulturfonden, YLE FST5, SVT Sveriges television and the City of Kokkola.
